Binghamton Intramurals: Wrap-up
More than 3,000 students participate in at least one intramural sport at Binghamton. Fittingly, we will give the breakdown of the champions in each of the sports.
Flag Football:
Carrying the top seed in the playoffs was Pi Lam B, going 3-0 in the regular season while holding all their opponents scoreless. However, in the quarterfinals of the playoffs, the top-seed was upset by eighth-seeded Victorious Secret. In a nail biter of a semi-final, the Double Agents, seeded fifth, gained a finals berth with a 28-27 win over Victorious Secret. The Double Agents claimed the Flag Football 2009 Intramural Championship with a 39-13 finals win over seventh-seeded Stepdads.
Co-Ed Soccer:
With a 6-5 thrilling victory in the finals, FC United claimed the Intramural Co-Ed Soccer Championship. In the double elimination tournament, FC United never lost en-route to its title.
Men’s Soccer:
A tightly played match in the finals saw United Nations win 1-0, to become the Fall 2009 Intramural Men’s Soccer champions. The team name was derived from the fact that so many of its players originate from countries around the world.
Triples Team Bowling:
Fighting Team Names were crowned the Fall 2009 Intramural Triples Team Bowling champions this week.
Arena Flag Football:
During the regular season there were three pools of play. The top-two teams from each pool qualified for the playoffs. The two favorites going into the tournament were undefeated Average Joes and undefeated Victorious Secret, both going 3-0. However, top-seeded Average Joes lost 48-30 in the semifinals to the fourth-seeded Man Down Revived. Following a 31-24 victory in the other semifinals, Victorious Secret became the favorite for the title, and they did not disappoint. With a barn burner of a final game, Victorious Secret were crowned intramural champions with a 50-29 victory.
Floor Hockey:
Holding the second seed going into the playoffs, Pi Lam defeated three teams in the post-season tourney to claim the intramural championship. The team averaged 11 goals per game in the regular season while only giving up 1.80 per game.
Co-Ed Dodgeball:
After a dominating regular season where they won 41 games and dropped only 9, Rock Miron were granted the No. 1 seed and were considered huge favorites going into the playoffs. Needless to say, they lived up to the hype in taking the Intramural Dodgeball Championship.
3 vs. 3 Basketball:
In the Recreational league, fifth-seeded Here Comes the Judd played the Cinderella Story after upsetting the top seed in the semifinals of the playoffs. They rode the momentum to a 40-34 win in the finals to claim the intramural title.
In the Competitive league, sixth-seeded Nothing, defeated the second seed in the semis to gain an unexpected place in the finals. A 30-28 victory in the championship gained them the 3 vs. 3 Competitive Basketball Intramural title.
