So, I really like TV, which is something you probably noticed based on this past semester’s issues of Release. This past television season there have been some really surprising and crazy things going on. Because of the Writers Guild of America strike, many shows returned this fall from an early hiatus and shortened seasons without a strong audience base.

Anyway, since I really enjoy spreading the things I love to other people, now is my chance to share my TV gems with you all.

“HEROES” Mondays at 9 p.m. on NBC

I kind of have a love/hate relationship with “Heroes.” I love it because it sometimes gives me my weekly dose of Kristen Bell. I hate it because I usually find the writing atrocious, the acting even worse and the plots are often straight-up rip-offs from Marvel Comics’ “X-Men” series. People with powers are fighting other people with powers, plots to wipe out powers, plots to give people fake powers, etc.

But these past two weeks have had me gasping for more, especially the Elle (Bell) and Sylar (Zachary Quinto) interactions. I’m a little worried because Bell’s contract is almost up. Besides Cristine Rose as Angela, Bell is probably the best thing “Heroes” has going for it. The worst thing? Hayden Panettiere’s weave.

“30 ROCK” Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. on NBC

My love of Tina Fey is known far and wide in these parts, but on “30 Rock” it’s really the writing that shines through. The episode guest-starring Oprah Winfrey was pure comic genius, I was laughing nonstop. Thanks to Fey’s Palin impersonation, “30 Rock” has been receiving a lot more attention than it used to; now I just hope it doesn’t let that go to its head like “Scrubs” and “The Office” have. NBC has been promoting the guest stars a bit too much for my liking, but if it draws people into the show, that can only be a good thing.

“SCREAM QUEENS” Mondays at 10 p.m. on VH1

It’s a huge guilty pleasure. I’m almost ashamed to say I watch it weekly, but it’s addicting. The host, and star of the “Saw” movies, Shawnee Smith, is hilarious … but probably not intentionally.

She comes off really bored a lot of the time and that just brings even more hilarity to the situations. Smith often sounds like she’s delivering lines in a deadpan style to the young actresses competing for a part in “Saw VI.” It’s completely out of place and makes for some quality awkward television. Most of the contestants can’t act their way out of a paper bag, but personally, I’m pulling for Lindsay, the former star of Nickelodeon’s “Caitlin’s Way.”

The show is absurd and knows it is, which is a good thing.
