August 1990 — Lois DeFleur begins her presidency at Binghamton University after being provost at the University of Missouri.
October 1994 — Construction begins on the $20 million Academic I complex that houses the Decker School of Nursing, the School of Education and Human Development and the School of Management.
March 1996 — DeFleur announces BU will elevate its entire athletics program from NCAA Division III to NCAA Division II beginning fall 1998.
January 1999 — DeFleur approves the limited arming of campus police officers at the University.
May 1999 — DeFleur announces BU will begin a two-year NCAA Division I compliance period, setting the date for Division I completion in fall 2001.
Jan. 31, 2004 — The $33.1 million Events Center opens, providing a facility for Division I intercollegiate athletic programs in addition to the West Gym.
July 2006 — Schools are reorganized at BU, including the College of Community and Public Affairs and the School of Education, created from the former School of Education and Human Development.
October 2006 — BU opens an Innovative Technologies Complex to house labs and offices.
August 20, 2007 — BU opens the $29 million University Downtown Center, located on Washington Street, bringing opportunities for community and educational partnerships with the city of Binghamton.
November 2007 — DeFleur announces plans to develop a law school that will accept about 300 students.
March 2008 — Construction on the East Campus Housing project begins, which includes Newing College, Dickinson Community and the Chenango Champlain Collegiate Center.
October 2009 — SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher requests DeFleur’s full cooperation in an investigation into the University’s athletics program, after the men’s basketball program undergoes unexpected cuts and changes in coaching staff.
November 2009 — BU releases a climate action plan, creating a long-term goal for lowering its carbon footprint.
Jan. 13, 2010 — DeFleur announces she will retire at the end of July.
