With the first week of classes already over and most of our schedules down pat, we are officially into the semester. And for some of us, it’s our last. Binghamton University may not have the opportunities that other places have to offer, but there are a few things no one should leave without doing at least once. So for your convenience, Pipe Dream put together the ultimate list; please pick and choose at your discretion.
Disclaimer: we are not responsible for the consequences of your adventures.
1. Step out of the box and try something new — there’s a meditation hour on campus every Thursday from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Fine Arts Museum, and everything from juggling to fencing club. Take a chance and do something you would never normally do.
2. In case you didn’t know, Binghamton is the Carousel Capital of the World. There are six in Broome County; take the time to ride them all.
3. Go to a basketball game. After reading about the team in every newspaper known to man, it’s the least you can do. If you’re really dedicated, try following the Bearcats on the road and see what happens.
4. Go to a townie bar, preferably one not on State Street. Bonus points if you do karaoke or dance on the bar.
5. Smoke up in the Nature Preserve; alternatively, go on a full moon hike.
6. See a bearcat; Baxter doesn’t count. There’s a real one in the Ross Park Zoo.
7. Pull a legitimate all-nighter studying for an exam and ace it.
8. Eat a Spiedie because, really, where else are you going to find one as good?
9. Go to the Relief Pitcher on Conklin Avenue for wings.
10. Participate in Bar Crawl. It’s a senior tradition and a great way to celebrate one of your last times on State Street with your best friends.
11. Go to Parade Day. While it may be difficult to do it up on St. Patrick’s Day New York City style, Binghamton has its own version of the traditional parade.
12. Watch a B-Mets game.
13. Go to the gorges in Ithaca and try cliff diving, it’s beautiful.
14. Attend “Blues on the Bridge” in September and see more than 100 bands and vendors all gathered in one place.
15. Be a Weekend Warrior and get a quote in Pipe Dream, preferably in the same issue.
16. Black out at least once. Enough said.
17. Go to Cyber CafÃ.é trivia night or just stop by on a normal weeknight and play chess in the back.
18. Steal something (small!) from a dining hall — we’re paying a fee for it already, so you may as well prove the school right and take advantage of the free plates, utensils, etc.
19. Go sledding in the Nature Preserve. Bonus points if you use a dining hall tray you sneaked out, and even more bonus points if you go on that one hill that’s covered in rocks and break the tray on the way down.
20. Make hanky panky in Glenn G. Bartle; so many stacks to chose from.
We’re only a few people so this list is by no means all-inclusive. If we’ve missed something that made your time at BU what it was, e-mail us at opinion@bupipedream.com and share. We’d like the tip.
