Ladies and gentleman, it’s real. “Real Estate” will be headlining WHRW’s Moefest on Friday, May 10 in a celebration of music, friends and the last day of classes at Binghamton University.

Real Estate is a New Jersey-based indie rock band who’s second LP, “Days,” reached #52 in the US and was ranked 9th best album of 2011 on pitchfork.com. They will be playing the Hinman quad at 6 p.m. in the third annual Moefest.

Moefest is the spring WHRW music festival devoted to legendary station member, Moe. In his spirit and in the spirit of the celebrated Mexican food chain, Moes, this year’s Moefest will be best one yet. Moefest lasts from 12:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. and includes an art wall, tie-dye, custom poetry, and club tabling. The event is free, but the Moes burritos cost $2. If you are interested in tabling your student club, email gm@whrwfm.org.

“We want students to see this as a good way to enjoy some music and Moes before the stress of finals kicks in,” said Brian Kerins, the public relations coordinator at WHRW and a junior majoring in English.

Real Estate is just one of the four bands to grace the Moefest stage. Three local groups will also be showcased: “The Jean Jackets,” featuring Binghamton student Christine Spilka, “Level Up,” hailing from SUNY New Paltz, and whichever band places second at the Late Nite Battle of the Bands. The band that wins will open Spring Fling.

But the best collaboration wasn’t done by a band, but by the event planners. WHRW and BUMP, Binghamton Undergrounds Music Presents, worked together throughout the semester to bring their Moefest vision to life.

“BUMP wouldn’t have been able to book such a big and satisfying band without collaborating,” said Matt Costanzo, a sophomore majoring in English. “This is our magnum opus.”

The clubs pooled together their own budgets while also receiving funding from FINCO, Late Nite and OC3.

“We’re really excited to collaborate with so many student groups,” said Phil Wescott, the general manager of WHRW and a senior majoring in English. “And we’re excited to bring students together for the last day of class.”

WHRW will also be giving away a pair of Bonaroo tickets starting Monday, April 22, to promote the festival, where the winner will be announced. Stop by WHRW to enter or listen in on 90.5 fm and whrw.org for more info.

“We’re just really excited to bring the campus and community together,” said Kim Muller, a junior majoring in integrated neuroscience.

So in the spirit of Mexico, Real Estate and not Spring Fling, keep it lit and save the date. We’ll see you there.
