Hashtags have paid their new student deposits and are here to stay at Binghamton. That is, of course, until they decide to transfer to a school with a little more daylight. Whether you enjoy hashtags or not, there is no doubt that at some point in the near future, you will find yourself hashtagging your life away #yesitsaverbnow. Here are some #binghamtonhashtags classics to adopt, or maybe avoid. #whoknows

1. #springhamton — As the weather in Binghamton gets warmer, students know that it’s time to break out their finest spring hashtags. See some #flowers? #springhamton. It’s not hard to find #reasons to use this #hashtag — any variation from a normal winter day in Binghamton can call for springtime excitement. This hashtag goes particularly well with #omgsuninbing, as the parting of a few clouds can often be mistaken for #springhamton. Hashtagging about Binghamton during springtime can also be a good way to convince people that you haven’t been cooped up in your room watching Game Show Network all winter.

2. #gohomeweatheryouredrunk — When the weather just can’t decide what it wants, this Binghamton #hashtag is here for you. If there is one thing that students at Binghamton can agree on, it’s that they love to acknowledge the ever-changing weather that Binghamton experiences. It’s important to let everyone know just how much you suffer, and you can use this as an excuse for your mood swings. Most importantly, while you’re busy hashtagging that there is more rain than sun, you’ll miss the five minutes of beautiful sunlight outside of your window. Remember, when the weather is nice, don’t miss your chance to hashtag about it. Try #omgsuninbing. It’s a winner.

3. #sodexo — When you’re not Instagramming your food, you should be hashtagging about it. The Sodexo hashtag shouldn’t contain only complaints, however, but also a discussion of our favorite Sodexo workers and the occasional “Sodexo isn’t actually that bad.” Before leaving Binghamton, try putting a positive spin on the Sodexo hashtag, whether it’s about the great milkshakes at CIW night owl or a friendly Sodexo worker who makes you smile. Remember, don’t get too mean when talking about #sodexo: they are the ones who cook our food.

4. #trappedinbartle — Everyone has had those nights where they have had to take the ultimate plunge and camp out in Bartle. This can be a difficult, long and lonely experience, so it’s better than ever to hashtag about it. Letting people know you have tons of work might make them sympathize with you, or maybe you’ll meet someone else in Bartle who is hashtagging about the same thing. Don’t all Binghamton friendships start with matching Bartle hashtags? While studying, it is important to get as much frustration out as possible, so be sure you add extra hashtags describing your mood or the exact amount of work you have to do in detail. And in the case of an emergency, this hashtag can also serve as a #SOS.

“When I’m going to Bartle for the night, I make sure to throw a hashtag up in order to let my friends know where I am. Just in case,” said Brendan Keefe, a freshman majoring in human development.

5. #yellowcard — This is newer, but #yellowcard has made a resurgence on the hashtag scene, especially here in Binghamton. Whether you’re complaining about every other school getting Kendrick Lamar or don’t understand why Macklemore wouldn’t come for “$20 in his pocket,” hashtagging Yellowcard is a must. Binghamton comes together when there is something to complain about, and ragging on the SA seems like an ample opportunity to do so. It wouldn’t be surprising, however, to see quite a few #middleschoolmemories during the actual show. #relivingtheglorydays

Don’t forget, the number one rule of hashtagging is that one is never enough, so make sure to mix and match your #binghamtonhashtags for #optimalappeal.
