Adam Goldberg, Keisha Short and Kim Williams came away from the Binghamton track teams’ season-opening Cornell Indoor Relays with school records this weekend.

The record-breaking performances from the indoor track and field teams came only individually, as there were no team scores kept during the meet, during which Binghamton found a knack for setting school marks and coming up with second-place finishes.

Goldberg, a graduate student, placed second in the men’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.2 seconds, a new Binghamton record, besting the previous mark of 8.31.

Sophomore Kim Williams ran the women’s 60-meter dash, finishing in second place and earning a new school record time of 7.84 seconds in the process. The previous record was held by Heather Tassler with a time of 7.86 seconds.

Keisha Short rounded out the list of Bearcats with record-breaking performances this weekend by breaking her own school record in the women’s 300-meter run. She finished second as well, with a record time of 41.42. Her previous mark was 42.21.

Junior Katie Wilmer captured the women’s pole vault with a height of 11-3 3/4, equaling her height at last season’s indoor championships. Fellow Bearcat Carly Gross’ finishing height was 10 feet, earning her a third-place finish.

By equaling her height from last year’s meet this weekend, Wilmer gives the impression that she is ready to compete with the best.

“Katie has the ability to break the school record and go to the ECAC meet,” head coach Mike Thompson said. “As long as she focuses on jumping consistently.”

Dayna Johnson was also third in the long jump, jumping 17-10 1/4.

On the men’s side, junior Kris Yelverton placed second in the pole vault at 15-3.

Both the men’s and the women’s 4×400 relays finished second in their respective races for Binghamton.

Binghamton has plenty of time to prepare for its next meet, the Army Black Knight Invitational on Jan. 13.
