Head coach Nick Lasky’s experiment of starting all his backups at the George Washington Invitational in Delaware last weekend did not go as well as he had hoped, as the Binghamton golf team struggled under tough conditions and finished tied for 17th out of 24 teams in the field.

‘We didn’t play well as a team, but had several good individual scores,’ Lasky said.

Senior Tom Hackett played brilliantly in the first round, putting up a score of 71, but struggled with a 76 in the second round. Junior Ryan Gabel got off to a rough start but battled back to shoot 78-75, while freshmen Patrick Donovan and Mike Corbo shot 77-82 and 84-76, respectively, and junior Brian Golkiewicz struggled heavily with 83-82.

The general scoring trend of the entire field saw an increase in the final round due to very cold and windy conditions on Sunday.

This weekend at Prospect Bay Country Club in Baltimore, the starting five will make its spring debut. The team will look to follow up its impressive fall season. The field will consist of some top rival teams such as Rutgers, Yale and Cornell.

‘It will be a very strong field, probably the second strongest field we will compete in this spring,’ Lasky said.
