Plans for Binghamton University students to register online for their fall 2008 campus housing have been suspended after a computer server crashed early Saturday morning. Students will instead register in person in their respective housing communities from March 12 through March 19.

The system failed on its first day of operation last Wednesday, but was restored, allowing the first four of six priority registration groups for the apartment communities to sign up. Over the weekend, students that were able to sign up to live in Hillside and Susquehanna communities before the crash were notified via e-mail that their reservations would not be canceled and that they did not need to to participate in the paper-registration process.

According to Suzanne Howell, interim director of residential life, the online service has not been completely abandoned.

“We anticipate that the problem will be resolved for the next assignment cycle,” Howe said. “We apologize for any inconvenience residents may have experienced.”

The fifth registration group for apartment communities can start signing up 9 a.m. in the Appalachian Collegiate Center, room 111.
