Thanksgiving break is quickly approaching, so that means stores have had the winter holiday decorations out for months. And as the semester winds down with the stress of finals winding up, it’s also the perfect time to slip away to a theater. There are plenty of movies to choose from to give you some time off from hitting the books. So sit back and relax; Daniel Craig, Kristen Stewart, Keanu Reeves, Will Smith and Brad Pitt are on their way to spread a little holiday cheer.
“Quantum of Solace” (Now Playing) — Daniel Craig is back as 007 in the follow-up to “Casino Royale.” Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, Bond is determined to uncover the truth about the organization — called Quantum — that set Vesper up. At the same time, Bond battles an environmentalist named Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric) with the assistance of Camille Montes (Olga Kurylenko).
“Twilight” (Nov. 21) — Kristen Stewart plays Bella Swan, a girl who falls in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). Edward is different than the other vampires because he chooses not to drink human blood, but as he gets closer to Bella, he must resist the temptation of her scent while protecting her from a clan of new vampires that have come to town.
“The Day the Earth Stood Still” (Dec. 12) — A remake of the 1951 film of the same name, Keanu Reeves plays an alien named Klaatu who visits Earth with a message for all humans: live in peace or be destroyed. In the film, Klaatu befriends a boy (Jaden Smith) and his astrobiologist mother (Jennifer Connelly).
“Yes Man” (Dec. 19) — Based on a true story, Jim Carrey stars as Carl Allen, a lonely loan officer whose life is going nowhere — emphasis on the “no” — until he signs up for a self-help program which makes him suddenly say “yes” to everything and anything that comes his way. Carl’s life is transformed in many unexpected ways, but he soon realizes that embracing every opportunity might just become too much of a good thing.
“Seven Pounds” (Dec. 19) — Will Smith plays Ben Thomas, an IRS agent who tries to redeem himself for an unforgivable mistake he made in the past by personally helping and changing the lives of seven people, including Emily (Rosario Dawson), a woman with a heart condition.
“Bedtime Stories” (Dec. 25) — Adam Sandler is Skeeter Bronson, a hotel handyman whose life changes when the stories he tells his niece and nephew start to magically come true. Keri Russell and Courteney Cox co-star.
“Marley & Me” (Dec. 25) — Based on John Grogan’s 2005 best-selling memoir of the same name, Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston star as John and Jenny, a couple that buys a house and adopts a disobedient Labrador puppy they name Marley. John and Jenny soon discover life’s valuable lessons through the world’s worst dog.
“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” (Dec. 25) — “I was born under unusual circumstances.” And so begins “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” an adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story about a man (Brad Pitt) who ages backward and falls in love with a beautiful woman (Cate Blanchett) who grows older as he grows younger.
