Binghamton’s women’s soccer team held its third game of the season on Sunday with a victory against Le Moyne, winning 4-0 despite the ambiguous weather. The Bearcats played a strong front on both offense and defense, creating dangerous sequences and goal opportunities to build their lead.

The game started off with a kickoff by Le Moyne, but the Bearcats quickly took command. Both junior forward Jahkaya Davis and senior defender Megan Baker worked the field with two shot attempts, but were blocked by Le Moyne’s keeper. With an assist by junior midfielder Anna Buckwalter, Davis launched the ball high left, scoring the first goal of the afternoon.

With a 1-0 lead and 15 minutes left in the first half, the Bearcats played to maintain their lead by creating goal opportunities whenever possible.

Sophomore midfielder Sydney Krempasky provided another shot at goal for Binghamton, but it was successfully blocked by Le Moyne’s keeper.

A side tackle by Le Moyne allowed free kicks for Binghamton, none of which resulted in a score. Heading into the second half, Binghamton aimed to maintain its lead with a shot attempt by sophomore defender Gwen McManus that went wide.

A final shot by Binghamton went into the goal, but was then called as a dead ball. The Bearcats entered halftime maintaining their 1-0 lead with a strong defense.

Both teams pressed on as the game headed into the second half. Despite the slight rain, Binghamton capitalized on the conditions to continue its aggressive approach.

Davis continued to dominate with impressive plays on the field with a shot past Le Moyne’s defense, but missed just wide of the left post. The next goal went to Binghamton once again, with senior forward Paige Luke scoring Binghamton’s second goal of the game and her first goal of the season.
Possession of the ball moved back and forth between the teams, but Luke eventually broke through once again to increase the Bearcats’ lead to 3-0.

Despite the three-goal advantage, the Bearcats continued to create goal opportunities, putting pressure on Le Moyne from all sides. Off a corner kick, Davis booted the ball close to the net for an attempted goal, but it ended up sailing over the net.

Binghamton continued to be relentless, and sophomore defender Ale Victoriano sent the ball low and right into the net, scoring the final goal of the game.

The Bearcats took a 4-0 victory with 24 total shots. Coming into this season as the reigning America East regular-season champion, Binghamton women’s soccer continued to show itself as a team to watch out for.

Binghamton is set to play Thursday, Aug. 27 at 6:07 p.m. on its home turf against Siena University at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
