Marvin Lee, a former guard on the Binghamton men’s basketball team, was murdered outside of a Chicago bar early Thursday morning. He was 30 years old.

The motive for the murder is claimed to have been an altercation between Lee’s party and other bar patrons at Murphy’s Lounge in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood. According to Homicide Watch Chicago, Lee and his party were involved in an altercation inside of the bar at approximately 2:40 a.m. Later that morning, Lee walked over to the car of the other party in an attempt to reconcile the situation. While talking, he was assaulted and shot in the head at point-blank range.

Lee was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:52 a.m. CST on April 7. The culprits have yet to be identified.

After transferring to BU from Pratt Community College (KS) prior to the 2006-07 season, the Chicago native saw action in 17 games for the Bearcats. Earning four starts during his time at Binghamton, Lee played a role on a team that finished with a 13-16 record before transferring again to Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. During his 2007-08 campaign at ESU, Lee made 29 starts and averaged 10 points per game.
