Dusan Perovic verbally committed to the Binghamton men’s basketball team today.

A 6-foot-9 combo big man, Perovic teamed up with fellow Binghamton commit Romello Walker at South Kent Prep this season. Perovic joins Walker, Wilfredo Rodriguez, John Schurman, Justin McFadden and Bobby Ahearn in Binghamton’s 2014 class.

Perovic, who can sign his National Letter of Intent on April 16, said he received just one other offer — from Sacred Heart — but his relationship with Walker drew him to Binghamton.

“I like playing with him. He told me a lot about Binghamton before I came to the official visit,” Perovic said. “He’s probably one of the big reasons why I decided to visit Binghamton, and once I came there and saw the campus and everything I realized he was right.”

Perovic, who also drew interest recently from Fordham and Loyola Marymount, describes himself as a versatile big man who can play inside and outside.

“I feel comfortable shooting threes, mid-range jumpshots, too. I like posting up,” he said.

The Bearcats desperately needed another big man, as the rest of the 2014 class ranges from 6-foot-4 to 6-foot-6. Senior forwards Alex Ogundadegbe and Roland Brown will graduate in May, leaving freshmen forwards Nick Madray and Magnus Richards as the only other frontcourt players.

Perovic expressed his excitement about the opportunity to expedite the rebuilding process at Binghamton, which went 7-23 in 2013-14.

“When I talked to coach [Tommy] Dempsey and all of them I see a really young team now, and I think we have a chance to really, really be good,” Perovic said. “I feel like we can definitely change the program and make something really good there.”
