This Saturday, patrons of The Venue will be treated to a taste of the West Coast.

ThatNewJam, a radio show and music blog founded by Binghamton University student Christian Randell in 2012, is teaming up with Mixify, a live streaming community for DJs, and The Venue, a sport and music hall in Downtown Binghamton, to provide live broadcast of a show that DJ and producer Brillz is playing at the Icon Collective in Los Angeles.

“Venue will be able to hear and see Brillz as he plays his set in California; when he talks on the mic, we’ll hear it live at Venue and we’ll be able to see him as we project a live feed from CA,” Randell wrote in an email.

According to Randell, a senior majoring in psychology, ThatNewJam has been planning this event with Mixify since January, gauging community interest from Facebook groups like Binghamton Electro Collective (BEC) and working with The Venue’s management to get the artist booked. For Randell, choosing to hold the event at The Venue came down to visibility.

“The best way to wrangle in the most people was to make it as visible as humanly possible,” Randell wrote. “With State St. being the hub of Binghamton nightlife, it would be easy to promote the event to people who are already usually there to begin with. Venue also has the best concert space on State St. with the stage in the front and plenty of room for people to spread out and dance.”

Other sets for the night include those from hip-hop act Frank Buick, local DJs Tezz, Ć&T and Jizzy Fra, as well as Randell DJing under the name ThatNewJam.

Jared Frazer, a junior majoring in English who DJs under the name Jizzy Fra, helped with finding potential artists to showcase.

“I’m excited to hear sets from all the local talent we have for the event,” Frazer said. “I think we all have pretty diverse styles, which should give the show a nice vibe. As always, I’m pumped to turn up and throw down a fun set.”

Randell said that this is the first official booking that ThatNewJam has done in Binghamton.

Tickets are on sale for $10.
