Over 600 people packed the Lecture
Hall building to hear former Black Panther Party Chairwoman Elaine Brown
speak. In her speech, titled "New Age Racism," Brown spoke against
what she called the popular identification of poverty with blacks by many
Americans. Brown demanded reparations for blacks and Native-American Indians
to be put into place immediately. Brown also spoke against capitalism
and American imperialism and criticized the policies of former President
Bill Clinton.
