Despite the team disappointment, some BU swimmers managed to prevail
Jessica Hoesten - Staff Writer

This weekend the Binghamton University swimming and diving teams experienced their first loss of the season to the Towson University Tigers, with scores of 113-87 for the men, and 129-93 for the women.

Despite the team disappointment, some BU swimmers managed to prevail. First year swimmer from Egypt, Wael Dowidar, touched first in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.19) and 200-yard butterfly (1:58.49), while sophomore teammate Jimmy Falbuch placed fourth in the butterfly event. Sophomore Chris McGuire was also impressive for BU, placing first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:56.61. McGuire also took over one of the two distance events, winning the 500-yard freestyle in 4:46.11.

On the women’s side, freshman Hannah Clegg won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:05.97, beating her own school record, which was set on Oct. 20 against Vermont, by 2.21 seconds. Sophomore and former record holder Amy DeWitt (2:11.04) also competed in this event, placing third.

Freshman Laura Linek placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.21, losing to a Towson competitor by only .47 seconds.

Freshman Maureen Kirby was champion in the 1 and 3 meter diving events with scores of 174.60 and 167.85, while freshman Brian Roach topped the men’s events, totalling 180.30 and 201.45 points.

The Bearcat swimmers and divers will try to bounce back from this tough loss when they host Georgetown University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
