The Binghamton University women’s soccer team (12-4-2) strengthened their bid to the Div. I ECAC Tournament with a 5-2 victory over the State University of New York at Albany (1-15-1) in their season finale on Wednesday.
Sophomore Tracy Kasmarcik broke a 1-1 tie when she rebounded her own shot off the crossbar and drilled it into the open net in the 18th minute. In the second half, Kasmarcik widened the gap to 3-1 when she booted her team-leading 14th goal of the season into the lower left corner past Albany goalkeeper Beth Spinelli.
Senior Sarah Young, who now holds the school record for most career assists (31), set up Kasmarcik for a score and contributed a tally of her own in the second half. Young and Kasmarcik lead the team in points with 19 and 34, respectively.
The Bearcats, who outshot the Great Danes by a margin of 24-6, also received goals from Alyson Cammann and Emily Moore.
The soccer team rides a 10-game non-losing streak and is one of five squads who have applied for the ECAC Tournament. The games are scheduled for Nov. 17-18, but the four selections for the tourney will not be made until at least Nov. 12.
