Last week, the Binghamton University women’s soccer team (9-4-2) continued their seven game streak without a loss, coming back in games versus Providence College and the Naval Academy to tie in double overtime, and beating St. Peter’s College in a 7-1 Bearcat field day.
Against Providence on Tuesday, the game remained scoreless until the Friars notched the first two goals of the game with less than three minutes remaining in the first half.
In the wake of two unanswered goals, the Bearcats stayed focused and eventually responded at 71:00, when senior back Alyson Cammann fired a 20-yard direct kick into the corner. BU kept the pressure on as sophomore forward Tracy Kasmarcik scored her 10th goal of the season off a pass from junior midfielder Amanda Norman less than four minutes later.
In 30 minutes of overtime play, the Bearcats were unable to convert on any of their 11 shots on goal. The Friars, who outshout BU 23-21, were also scoreless, and the game ended in a draw.
On the road last Friday, Sarah Young netted a hat-trick leading BU to a 7-1 stomping of St. Peter’s.
The Bearcats’ scoring frenzy began on a pair of early goals scored by Young within 2:18 of each other. The Bearcats went on to build up a healthy 4-1 lead at halftime.
Kasmarcik added one to the barrage of BU goals with her 11th of the season and tallied a pair of assists, while freshman forward Tatiana Mathelier contributed her eighth goal this season. Other Binghamton scorers were senior Merri Montenare and Cammann, who converted on a penalty kick in the first half, for her second straight game with a goal.
Regardless of the vast goal differential, St. Peter’s defense played commendably, keeping the Bearcats to only seven goals after being outshot 48-5.
At home on Saturday, Binghamton proved they were not intimidated by a tough, 11-4 Navy squad. The Mids, who began the scoring during the 15th minute, were outshot by BU, 27-19.
In the second half, Kasmarcik netted her team-high 12th goal of the year. Kasmarcik, who also has five assists, has scored in eight consecutive games.
The women’s soccer team will be put to the test this weekend, playing at Farleigh Dickinson University on Oct. 26 and taking on Siena College at home on Oct. 28.
