The Binghamton University men’s soccer team (0-10, 0-3 Atlantic Soccer Conference) lost in a double-overtime slugfest to Philadelphia University (8-5, 4-0 ASC) in front of 185 fans at home on Saturday.

Both teams fought hard through the final seconds of the match, resulting in a total of 43 foul calls and seven yellow cards.

The Rams, who outshot BU 22-13, snagged the first goal of the game from the hot foot of senior forward Andy Zayas. BU was unable to answer until the 68th minute, when sophomore back Rodney Rigg got hold of a loose ball from eight yards out to tie the match.

In the 85th minute, junior forward Mike Kaneris chalked up his third goal of the season to give the Bearcats a 2-1 lead. The clock was winding down and BU seemed to be on the way to its first victory, but Philadelphia’s Rob Miller drilled an 18-yard volley into the far corner on a pass from Zayas to send the game into OT.

BU Senior goalkeeper Gianni DiCiollo saved 9 shots for the Bearcats, but he couldn’t stop Zayas who struck again in 2 OT, netting the game-winner with 11:06 left on the clock.

The soccer team will try to avoid a winless season when they travel to the State University of New York at Buffalo on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
