Senior forward Sarah Young scored two goals to lead the Binghamton University women’s soccer team (8-4) to a 5-0 shillacking of Canisius University (3-9-1) on Saturday. The victory marked the Bearcats’ fourth in a row.

All was quiet in the match until Mary Fazio rifled in a rebound off a shot by Deli Plourde at 27:31. Fazio, who holds the squad’s highest shooting percentage (.500), now has five goals on the season. With five minutes remaining in the half, Tracey Anderson threaded a pass to Young who beat the keeper from 10 yards and extended BU’s lead to 2-0.

In the second half, Tracy Kasmarcik and Young scored goals within 3:08 of each other, and Caitlin O’Shaughnessy put the final nail in the Golden Griffins’ coffin at the 76:52 mark with her first goal of the season. Kasmarcik leads the Bearcats with nine goals and three assists, and she averages almost two points per game (1.83).

Even in their defeat, Canisius goalkeepers Christine Moran and Michaela Istone combined to save 17 of the Bearcats’ 40 shots on goal.

BU hits the road on Tuesday to take on Providence College at 3 p.m.
