‘Cats to face Pitt on ESPN2

A Big East opponent, a national television audience, and a brand new roster mark the start of a six-game road swing for the Bearcats.

The Binghamton University men’s basketball team travels to the University of Pittsburgh Tuesday as part of the O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic. The game will be televised on ESPN2 and it is the second time that the Bearcats have appeared on national television; the other was last season’s America East tournament final win over UMBC. The game marks the first meeting between the two schools.

Binghamton is coming off a 54-49 win over Division II Bloomsburg on Saturday at the Events Center. Junior forward Moussa Camara put up a career-high 16 points and junior forward Greer Wright had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

“We are just gonna go out and play basketball,” Camara said on the upcoming matchup. “We’re going to play hard defense and do our best.”

Pittsburgh opened its season with a 63-60 win over Wofford. The Panthers rallied from a 13-point second half deficit to extend to a 22-game win streak at home. Junior guard Brad Wanamaker, who tallied 15 points in the comeback, led Pitt in their home opener. Pitt’s rabid fan base has enjoyed the best winning percentage in the Big East over the last eight years as its team has gone 220-56.

“We aren’t going to pay attention to the fans, just focus on basketball,” Camara said. “To me it’s just another team, we are just going to go out there and play like every team is the same: go out and do our best.”

The Panthers are currently playing without any starter from last season’s 31-5 team that was ranked No. 1 in the nation and lost in the final seconds to Villanova in the NCAA Elite Eight. Pitt also is riding a 39-game home win streak versus its non-conference opponents.

“Myself, Moussa and Kyrie have experienced it,” junior guard Chretien Lukusa said on playing on the big stage. “We just got to try to guide our teammates, give a little tour of what’s gonna happen. They may be shocked at first but once the ball goes up, we’ll just play basketball.”

Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
