The No. 63-ranked Binghamton University men’s tennis team had another successful weekend, improving to 11-1 on the season with solid wins over Radford, Duquesne and Youngstown State.
Binghamton began Saturday’s action against Radford by winning two of the three doubles matches, which proved to be the deciding point as they squeaked by the Highlanders 4-3.
“Saturday was a great college match,” said Binghamton head coach Adam Cohen. “Anytime you get two good college teams playing, and it comes down to the last match — that is what college tennis is all about.”
Radford entered the year ranked No. 56 in…
In his junior year, men’s tennis player Sven Vloedgraven has been nothing short of amazing.
As a freshman, Vloedgraven posted a 32-13 combined record between singles and dual matches, along with being named the team’s Most Valuable Player after winning crucial singles and doubles matches against the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in the America East championship finals.
As a sophomore, he progressed further and one-upped his team MVP award by winning the title of America East Player of the Year, along with earning first team All-Conference honors for the second straight year. He was able to improve his record…
The Binghamton University men’s tennis team continued to impress with another strong showing this past weekend at the Brown Invitational. This weekend’s performance was highlighted by strong play from junior Sven Vloedgraven, junior Arnav Jain and sophomore Gilbert Wong.
“Overall the team played well,” said Binghamton head coach Adam Cohen. “We were able to send seven players and our team is playing at a good level right now. We are showing the other teams within the region that we are a team people should prepare seriously for.”
The weekend’s invitational was a mock-dual, different from the previous tournaments. Mock-duals are…
The Binghamton University men’s tennis team kicked off its season with two tourneys. Cornell Fall Invitational and the Virginia Classic had strong performances by many of the Bearcats’ top players, but several unexpected players also stepped up.
Junior Evan Algier, last year’s No. 7 man, turned a few heads this past weekend by showing up in a big way at the Cornell Invitational and winning the “B” singles event.
“He got to play in five matches and he won the event, which is great,” said coach Adam Cohen. “His first couple of matches were not too challenging, but his next…
With a team that returns its entire starting lineup, Binghamton University’s men’s tennis team seems poised to do big things in 2009-10.
Last year’s team consisted mainly of underclassmen, giving fourth-year coach Adam Cohen an opportunity to make a run late into 2010. Under the tutelage of Cohen, the team has made tremendous strides in each of his three full years with the team. In particular, last year’s group moved up in the regional rankings from 13th to eighth, the highest mark in Binghamton’s eight years playing Division I. Along with climbing the rankings, the team defeated some schools that…
Tuesday afternoon, the Binghamton University men’s tennis team huddled around the television, anxiously waiting for its name to be called. The players hoped they would draw a warm weather location, and the two most popular destinations seemed to be California and Florida. Well, the Bearcats landed somewhere in between.
The Bearcats are matched up with Big 12 powerhouse Texas A&M, located almost directly in between the two desired destinations.
Binghamton was one of 31 teams to earn its NCAA tournament bid by winning its conference. For the second consecutive year, and fifth in the last seven years, the Bearcats won…
Talk about April showers.
After a tremendous month of March, Binghamton’s men’s tennis team has hit a bit of a snag this April. With Friday’s loss dropping them to 1-3 for the month, the team is suffering without their top player, junior Moshe Levy.
The Bearcats were defeated by host Stony Brook, 4-3. The loss to the rival Seawolves puts the Bearcats at 12-7 overall and 1-1 versus conference opponents. Friday night’s victory improved the Seawolves to 14-4 on the season. The two teams split at singles, but Stony Brook won two of three at doubles, taking the decisive fourth…
International talent continues to make headlines as the Binghamton University men’s tennis team continued their strong play with wins over UNC Greensboro and Dartmouth on Saturday.
The Bearcats started their night off matching up against and defeating the Spartans of UNC Greensboro, 5-1.
Both schools were undefeated heading into Saturday’s match. Playing only singles, Binghamton won five of the day’s six matches.
