The Bearcats women’s tennis team (15-3) continued in fantastic form with two incredible sweeps over Fairleigh Dickinson (4-15) and Colgate (7-12).

In the 7-0 Fairleigh Dickinson sweep, sophomore Lauren Bates won her first set over Julia Korshunova, 6-4, and then fought out her second set, which went to 7-5.

Freshman Jillian Santos did well in second singles to win both of her sets over Julia Prantl, 6-3. She and sophomore Yulia Smirnova both managed to keep their opponents to a low amount of game wins, as Smirnova also kept her opponent, Ksenia Chernyshova, to 6-1 and 6-2 sets.

Freshman Marina Bykovskaya continued the sweep and the low sets with 6-3 and 6-1 set wins over Jessica DeCarlos. With only one more win necessary to clinch the day, junior Danyelle Shapiro obliged with a 6-0 and a 6-1 win.

The sweep was slightly blemished when freshman Emma Leibowicz’s opponent forfeited her match.

Bates and Santos managed to double up on their wins in first doubles by defeating Prantl and Chernyshova, 8-3.

Smirnova also won her second match when she and Leibowicz beat DeCarlos and Korshunova, 8-1. Bykovskaya and Shapiro won their doubles match by default.

The Bearcats notched their fourth consecutive victory with the 6-0 Colgate sweep.

In the singles matches, Binghamton was unstoppable. Bates defeated Elise DeRose, 6-3 and 6-1, to start, and then Santos defeated Alexandra Erickson, 6-0 and 6-0. Smirnova beat Cameron Williams, 6-2 and 6-1, while Bykovskaya took out Stephanie Brown, 7-5 and 6-2, and Shapiro defeated Jen Marquit, 6-0, 6-0.

The doubles team of Bates and Santos defeated DeRose and Williams, 8-0. Leibowicz and Smirnova then took out Erickson and Brown, 8-6.

The final match of the season for the Bearcats is scheduled to take place this Saturday against Albany at 1 p.m.
